Yet another former member of Andy Reid’s staff from Philadelphia will be moving his way up the coaching ladder to becoming a head coach.
According to NFL Network’s Jason La Confora, the Browns are done with interviews, will work out a contract with Rams’ offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, and name him their new head coach.
The Browns and Shurmur’s agent, Bob LaMonte, will be finalizing the deal today. LaMonte also represents Browns’ president Mike Holmgren, GM Tom Heckert (another former Eagle), and executive vice president Bryan Wiedmeier.
In the past, Shurmur has coached Donovan McNabb and Sam Bradford, helping each greatly to become very good quarterbacks, although Bradford only had one year with him.
The guy who could replace Shurmur in St. Louis is Josh McDaniels, who’s known as a very good quarterbacks coach in his own right.
UPDATE (12:08 CST): The Browns will have a press conference on Friday to announce the hire.

Shurmur is flying to Cleveland as we speak. I think he’s a solid choice. People have questioned his play calling, but apparently Spagnolo instructed Shurmur to keep the plays simple; he wanted to win games with defense. Shurmur also didn’t have many deep weapons on the roster.
Another name that’s popping up for the OC job is Brad Childress; he’s good friends with Spagnolo.
