2011 NFL Mock Draft – 7 Rounds – 4/22/2011

If you click on team names you can see each of their offseason pages complete with free agents, 2010 draft reviews and grades, and a lot of other information. You can also click on the 2011 NFL Draft/Offseason tab to see my draft value board, list of players that each team is interested in, and other NFL posts.

  1. Carolina Panthers – *Cam Newton QB, Auburn
When you look at the options that Carolina has here, Cam Newton has the biggest bust potential. He also has the highest upside as well. He’s going to need time before he’s ready but Newton, if he’s willing to put in the time and effort, can become a very good NFL quarterback.
  2. Denver Broncos – *Marcell Dareus DT, Alabama
The Broncos are moving back to the 4-3 and one of their biggest needs is at defensive tackle. They could be taking at least two in the draft and having Dareus could potentially provide Denver with a monster in the middle.
  3. Buffalo Bills – Von Miller OLB, Texas A&M
I think the Bills could go in any number of directions here: Miller, quarterback Blaine Gabbert, defensive end Da’Quan Bowers or Nick Fairley are options. I think they’re happy with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the time being, but will draft a prospect to groom at QB later on. Aaron Maybin is a bust and Shawn Merriman isn’t going to be able to make an impact for them either. Miller has shown that he has the pass rush, run defense, and coverage abilities to be a top five pick.
  4. Cincinnati Bengals – *AJ Green WR, Georgia
I believe that Green is the better prospect over Julio Jones. There has been a report that the Bengals have Jones rated ahead of Green, but I don’t believe that one. Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson-Ochocinco should be on their way out.
  5. Arizona Cardinals – *Blaine Gabbert QB, Missouri
It’s very possible that a team will trade up before the Cardinals to take Gabbert, but I’m not projecting trades in this mock. The Cardinals number one need is a quarterback. The loss of Kurt Warner hurt this team more than Karlos Dansby or Anquan Boldin did.
  6. Cleveland Browns – *Da’Quan Bowers DE, Clemson
Concerns about Da’Quan Bowers’ knee have been plentiful in the past month, but the month leading up to the draft is also full of smokescreens and lies from teams. Only the teams and doctors that have been able to check out his knee know for sure if it’s really healthy. I’m going to side with that his knee is in good condition and that he’s going to go early, quite possibly here to the Browns.
  7. San Francisco 49ers – *Patrick Peterson CB, LSU
It feels strange that my number one rated player lasted to number seven overall in my mock, but this is the way it could actually turn out. Nate Clements is overpaid and the Niners need upgrades in their secondary.
  8. Tennessee Titans – *Nick Fairley DT, Auburn
Reports about missed meetings and character concerns are damaging to Fairley’s draft stock, but he’s still a top ten pick. Other than the Titans picking another Albert Haynesworth, if they’re willing to live with that, this is a steal.
  9. Dallas Cowboys – *Tyron Smith OT, USC
The Cowboys have been reportedly super high on picking Smith here. According to other reports, they’ve received interest from two other teams about trading up to this spot. I’m speculating that the Rams are one of those teams because they want to draft Julio Jones. As for the Cowboys, they haven’t drafted an offensive tackle in the first round since 1981, but they’re due and they’ll be getting a very athletic tackle who has the potential to hold up well at left tackle in the NFL.
  10. Washington Redskins – Jake Locker QB, Washington
Donovan McNabb is all but gone in Washington and Rex Grossman could be the veteran who’s kept for 2011, if there is a season. Locker disappointed his senior year, but he still has loads of potential with his athleticism and arm.
  11. Houston Texans – *Robert Quinn DE/OLB, North Carolina
The Texans are switching to the 3-4 defense with new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and need another outside linebacker. Quinn was suspended for taking improper benefits, but is still considered a top pick. Another concern for teams about Quinn is a benign brain tumor that was discovered in high school. He hasn’t had any problems with it at college, but it’s something that is a possible cause for concern.
  12. Minnesota Vikings – *Ryan Mallett QB, Arkansas
I can remember hearing and reading about a certain quarterback in the 1983 draft who dropped to late in the first round because of character concerns. His name was Dan Marino. Now, whether or not these character and drug concerns about Mallett have any truth to them is beyond my knowledge. I will say that Mallett’s arm is the strongest in the draft and if not for the character and drug use accusations by some, he’d be a top ten or possibly the number one overall pick.
  13. Detroit Lions – Prince Amukamara CB, Nebraska
Amukamara’s only knocks have been about his ability to cover great talent. His game against Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon has been cited numerous times, but I think people overlook that he only struggled in the first half of that game. Prince did much better in the second half. If the Lions are able to get him at 13, it’ll be great value.
  14. St. Louis Rams – *Julio Jones WR, Alabama
The Rams very well may trade up in order to get Julio Jones. If not, the Redskins could take him or another would trade up ahead of them.
  15. Miami Dolphins – Christian Ponder QB, Florida State
If Ryan Mallett were available here, he’d be the Dolphins’ pick. I think that because of Mallett’s character concerns and GM Jeff Ireland’s known character concerns (remember him trying to get Dez Bryant mad by asking him if his mother was a prostitute before last year’s draft?), the two would be a good match. Ponder was considered a first round pick before the 2010 season, but injuries caused him to slip. I think that after medical checks, his arm injuries will be looked past and he’ll be a first round pick. If not to Miami here, Jacksonville would be very likely to draft Ponder.
  16. Jacksonville Jaguars – Ryan Kerrigan DE, Purdue
The Jaguars finished 32nd in 2009 and 30th in 2010 in sacks. This is such a generic pick, because I see it in just about every mock draft, but it’s such a perfect fit it seems like. I really do think that the options here for the Jags would be Kerrigan and Ponder.
  17. New England Patriots (from Oakland) – Cameron Jordan DE, California
The Pats have six picks in the first three rounds. They’ll need the majority of those to be used on defense and to perhaps start a youth movement on the offensive line. I think the Pats could trade up to make sure they get Jordan.
  18. San Diego Chargers – *JJ Watt DE, Wisconsin
The Chargers have shown interest in Watt and I believe that it’s true interest, not pre-draft smokescreens. Watt made a huge impact this past year and will be a good fit at DE in the 3-4. He has a great motor, work ethic, and character.
  19. New York Giants – Anthony Castonzo OT, Boston College
Castonzo’s strength is his athleticism and pass protection ability, but he needs to get stronger. The Giants had to shuffle a little bit on the line with some injuries, but remain a great unit, with the exception of Shawn Andrews on the right side.
  20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – *Aldon Smith DE, Missouri
The Bucs used their first two picks on defensive tackles last year and this year they could be looking to take a pass rushing defensive end to team them with. The Bucs’ pass rush needs help as Stylez White led the team with 4.5 last season.
  21. Kansas City Chiefs – Phil Taylor NT, Baylor
Taylor played in too much space in the Big 12 at Baylor, so he could be a better player in the NFL where he’ll play nose tackle and will be asked to eat up blockers more. The Chiefs need just that type of position to help shore up the middle of their defensive line.
  22. Indianapolis Colts – Nate Solder OT, Colorado
Solder is 6-8 and very athletic for his size. He came to Colorado as a tight end, but was switched to tackle and has shown great promise. One concern about him is that rushers will be able to gain a leverage easily against him since he could have trouble getting low.
  23. Philadelphia Eagles – Mike Pouncey OG, Florida
The Eagles gave up 50 sacks in 2010. They could go tackle here as well, but I think Pouncey would be a really solid and reliable guard who could come in and start immediately.
  24. New Orleans Saints – *Corey Liuget DT, Illinois
The Saints’ defensive line produced a good number of sacks (20) and the run defense improved, but defensive tackle could use another guy. Liuget is projected by some to be a top 20 pick based on upside, but I have him rated a little lower and think he’ll be drafted in the 20s.
  25. Seattle Seahawks – Adrian Clayborn DE, Iowa
Clayborn had a down year in 2010, but he’s a legitimate beast. He’s strong against the run, a good pass rusher, stout tackler, and was an emotional leader at Iowa. I think that whichever team gets him later in the first round could end up with a very good value and end who can make an impact for a long time.
  26. Baltimore Ravens – Jimmy Smith CB, Colorado
Fabian Washington, Chris Carr, and Josh Wilson are potential free agents for the Ravens, so it’s important for them to bring in another corner. GM Ozzie Newsome has always done a great job of picking players who drop to them. In this case, Smith’s character could cause him to drop to Baltimore.
  27. Atlanta Falcons – Cameron Heyward DL, Ohio State
The defense was exposed in the loss to the Packers in the playoffs. The Falcons still have work to do if they want to become an elite team, but they are just about there. Heyward would be a top 20 pick if he could have had a more consistent college career. He isn’t a great threat to get to the quarterback off the edge, but he’s shown that he has the skills necessary to be a starting NFL end.
  28. New England Patriots – *Mark Ingram RB, Alabama
Like Bowers’ knee injury concerns, I don’t think that Ingram’s will cause him to fall. Teams are less willing to take running backs early, but Ingram is the type of back who can shoulder most of the load for an offense’s running game.
  29. Chicago Bears – Gabe Carimi OT, Wisconsin
The Bears offensive line was horrible at the start of 2010, but improved as the season wore on. However, it still needs an upgrade and a true left tackle.
  30. New York Jets – *Akeem Ayers OLB, UCLA
Ayers provided some clutch plays while at UCLA, but there are concerns about his instincts and read and react skills. He’s got great athleticism and pass rush ability, though.
  31. Pittsburgh Steelers – Danny Watkins OG, Baylor
He’s already 26 and is low on experience, but he’s steadily improved his stock during the Senior Bowl and combine.
  32. Green Bay Packers – Brooks Reed OLB, Arizona
I’m not sold on Reed being a first round pick, but his stock has risen to that point. He played defensive end at Arizona and teams may be thinking he can better maximize his talents at outside linebacker for a 3-4 team.
    2ND ROUND
  33. New England Patriots (from Carolina) – Derek Sherrod OT, Mississippi State
Logan Mankins and Matt Light could see their eventual replacements be drafted this year by the Pats.
  34. Buffalo Bills – *Muhammad Wilkerson DE, Temple
The run defense needs big time help.
  35. Cincinnati Bengals – *Mike Leshoure RB, Illinois
Cedric Benson has ran for two straight 1,000 yard seasons, but he had five fumbles last year. He’s also an unrestricted free agent, so there’s a good possibility the Bengals will draft a new back.
  36. Denver Broncos – *Kyle Rudolph TE, Notre Dame
Rudolph’s season was cut short with a hamstring injury, but that won’t stop a team with a huge need at tight end like the Broncos from drafting him early in the second.
  37. Cleveland Browns – Stephen Paea DT, Oregon State
Paea’s strength is unmatched outside of maybe one or two other players in this year’s draft. The Browns need to improve their defensive line the most of any position.
  38. Arizona Cardinals – Ben Ijalana OT, Villanova
The Cards will need to protect their investment if they’re able to nab a quarterback in the first. Even if they can’t get a QB in the first, they need an upgrade at offensive tackle.
  39. Tennessee Titans – *Martez Wilson MLB, Illinois
The Titans could be without a dependable linebacker if Stephen Tulloch leaves when free agency starts.
  40. Dallas Cowboys – *Brandon Harris CB, Miami (FL)
Mike Jenkins had a disappointing 2010 and Jerry Jones will be looking to upgrade his secondary.
  41. Washington Redskins – *Ryan Williams RB, Virginia Tech
The Redskins were without a reliable running back in 2010. Ryan Torain could be the main back for them, but he had a hamstring injury that held him out a few weeks. Although, Ryan Williams wasn’t without his own injuries last season. He also injured his hamstring.
  42. Houston Texans – *Aaron Williams CB, Texas
The switch to the 3-4 will cause the Texans to focus on improving their front seven in addition to their back four. Corner is a big need after Glover Quin and Kareem Jackson couldn’t stop much of anything last year through the air.
  43. Minnesota Vikings – *Justin Houston OLB, Georgia
Ben Leber and Chad Greenway may have their time up in Minnesota due to free agency.
  44. Detroit Lions – Bruce Carter OLB, North Carolina
Carter was brought in for a pre-draft visit to Detroit, perhaps to see if his ACL is healing up well.
  45. San Francisco 49ers – Jabaal Sheard DE/OLB, Pittsburgh
The Niners didn’t get much of a pass rush from their outside linebackers in 2010. Sheard played end at Pitt, but has the athleticism to convert to outside linebacker.
  46. Denver Broncos (from Miami) – Christian Ballard DE, Iowa
Ballard was a versatile lineman for the Hawkeyes. The Broncos need someone like that to help their switch to the 4-3.
  47. St. Louis Rams – Mason Foster OLB, Washington
Foster led the Pac 10 two times in tackles and that’s just the type of outside linebacker that could help the Rams shore up one of the needs on both sides of James Laurinitis.
  48. Oakland Raiders – Colin Kaepernick QB, Nevada
Kaepernick is a possible first rounder if someone’s desperate enough to take him late in the first. The Raiders could be one of those teams to trade up in order to get Kaepernick. There are concerns about his ability to adjust to an NFL offense from the pistol he ran at Nevada.
  49. Jacksonville Jaguars – Quinton Carter FS, Oklahoma
The Jaguars have the worst safeties in the league. They need an upgrade there is an understatement. Don Carey and Courtney Greene…yeah.
  50. San Diego Chargers – *Torrey Smith WR, Maryland
Vincent Jackson, Malcolm Floyd, and Legedu Naanee are all potential free agents if a CBA is reached this offseason. Smith is a great character guy and like former Maryland wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, he has great speed, but less than ideal hands.
  51. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Davon House CB, New Mexico State
Aqib Talib has gotten into trouble with the law, so it’d be great if Mark Dominic could get a good corner as insurance.
  52. New York Giants – Greg Jones LB, Michigan State
Despite being undersized, Jones was a tackling machine at Michigan State. His stock has dropped considerably since the beginning of last season, but I have a feeling he’s going to produce once he gets in the NFL.
  53. Indianapolis Colts – Drake Nevis DT, LSU
The Colts interior defensive line continues to struggle against the run.
  54. Philadelphia Eagles – Jason Pinkston OT/G, Pittsburgh
As I wrote earlier, 50 sacks allowed by an offensive line is way too much.
  55. Kansas City Chiefs – *Randall Cobb WR, Kentucky
Dwayne Bowe is up and down and wide receiver is something Matt Cassel could use another of.
  56. New Orleans Saints – Kendall Hunter RB, Oklahoma State
Pierre Thomas is a potential free agent.
  57. Seattle Seahawks – Stefen Wisniewski OC, Penn State
Chris Spencer could be a free agent and the offensive line went through some different combinations in 2010 due to injuries. Wisniewski would provide some stability.
  58. Baltimore Ravens – *Jon Baldwin WR, Pittsburgh
I’m a fan of Baldwin, despite maybe some attitude concerns. Whoever picks him up in the second round will have a steal on their hands. And wouldn’t you know it, the Ravens could pick up the pieces and score big.
  59. Atlanta Falcons – Rodney Hudson OG, Florida State
Justin Blalock, Harvey Dahl, and Tyson Clabo could all become free agents.
  60. New England Patriots – Leonard Hankerson WR, Miami (FL)
Hankerson has the size and speed of a good wide receiver prospect and has improved his hands quite a bit over his career at The U.
  61. San Diego Chargers (from Jets) – Quan Sturdivant MLB, North Carolina
The Chargers have four middle linebackers who could become free agents, so it’s unlikely that all or most of them will be re-signed.
  62. Chicago Bears – Marvin Austin DT, North Carolina
Austin was suspended for all of 2010 for taking improper benefits from an agent while in college. He cost himself a top 10 pick and his senior season at North Carolina. Other than taking the improper benefits, he already had concerns about his motor on the field.
  63. Pittsburgh Steelers – Kenrick Ellis NT, Hampton
The Steelers defensive line is starting to gain age (most are over 30), so they need to get a nose tackle while they can in this draft.
  64. Green Bay Packers – Curtis Brown CB, Texas
The Packers secondary is very good and deep, but Brown could be a best available pick if he were available here. 3RD ROUND
  65. Carolina Panthers – Allen Bailey DL, Miami (FL)
He lacks the burst to be a threat off the edge and the bulk to hold up on the interior.
  66. Cincinnati Bengals – *Rahim Moore FS, UCLA
Reggie Nelson did ok after coming up from a trade from Jacksonville, but an upgrade in the secondary is still needed.
  67. Denver Broncos – Colin McCarthy MLB, Miami (FL)
McCarthy has the ability to play all three linebacker spots.
  68. Buffalo Bills – DJ Williams TE, Arkansas
The Bills and Ryan Fitzpatrick would greatly benefit from having a pass catching TE like Williams.
  69. Arizona Cardinals – Ras-I Dowling CB, Virginia
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie played a level below hiss true skill set last season, but the worries are on the opposite corner spot.
  70. Cleveland Browns – Edmond Gates WR, Abilene Christian
Gates could go even earlier than this. He’s a hot prospect right now with great speed and is expected to become a better pro receiver than former Abilene Christian receiver Johnny Knox.
  71. Dallas Cowboys – Orlando Franklin OG, Miami (FL)
The interior of the Cowboys’ offensive line is starting to decline.
  72. New Orleans Saints (from Washington) – Sam Acho DE, Texas
The Saints improved against the run to 16th this past season, but still more could be done. Acho isn’t a great pass rusher, but can hold up well against the run.
  73. Houston Texans – Will Rackley OG, Lehigh
Rackley dominated small school competition and proved at the East-West Shrine game that he can protect with upper level competition.
  74. New England Patriots (from Minnesota) – Dontay Moch OLB, Nevada
One thing the Patriots need more of is a pass rush. Moch is a pass rush specialist and ran the fastest 40 time out of all the college defensive ends at the combine.
  75. Detroit Lions – James Carpenter OT, Alabama
Matt Stafford keeps on getting injured, so he needs to get the best protection he can get.
  76. San Francisco 49ers – Andy Dalton QB, TCU
I have no idea where the talk about Andy Dalton being drafted in the first round has come from, but it should not happen. I have a feeling Matt Millen or Trent Dilfer started it.
  77. Tennessee Titans – *Brandon Burton CB, Utah
The Titans’ pass defense ranking dropped to 29th. Alterraun Verner, Cortland Finnegan, and Jason McCourty will need to get better or get overtaken.
  78. St. Louis Rams – *Jordan Todman RB, Connecticut
The Rams really need a number two running back to take some of the work load off of Steven Jackson.
  79. Miami Dolphins – Demarco Murray RB, Oklahoma
Both or either Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown may be gone when free agency comes, so the Dolphins need to be prepared. The Dolphins’ offense without a running game is barely an offense.
  80. Jacksonville Jaguars – Ricki Stanzi QB, Iowa
For the first time since the Jaguars drafted Byron Leftwich in 2003, the Jaguars will draft a quarterback. I am a fan of Stanzi. I think he’s got great pocket awareness and his offense prepared him well for an NFL gig that may call for him to start playing soon.
  81. Oakland Raiders – Chimdi Chekwa CB, Ohio State
The loss of Asomugha will force Al Davis to select a corner and you know the guy’s got to have a great 40 time.
  82. San Diego Chargers – Chris Carter OLB, Fresno State
Chris Carter does a great job rushing the passer. Shaun Phillips needs someone on the other side since Larry English hasn’t lived up to expectations.
  83. New York Giants – Curtis Marsh CB, Utah State
The Giants have some depth questions after their top three corners.
  84. Tampa Bay Buccaneers  - Marcus Cannon OL, TCU
There have been reports that Cannon has testicular cancer. Is it a smokescreen by someone trying to cause him to drop or is it legit? It could be something that has just been noticed right now, but then again, why wasn’t it discovered until two weeks before the draft? It’s very suspicious, but here, I think he’s a solid pick.
  85. Philadelphia Eagles – Johnny Patrick CB, Louisville
Asante Samuel is great at creating turnovers, but the other corner spot is in need of someone with something more to offer.
  86. Kansas City Chiefs – Kelvin Sheppard MLB, LSU
Mike Vrabel is getting old (and stealing from casinos).
  87. Indianapolis Colts – *Shane Vereen RB, California
The Colts saw their backfield fall to some injuries last season. Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes could become free agents, but also are probably in decline (Rhodes is definitely in decline at his age).
  88. New Orleans Saints – Mark Herzlich OLB, Boston College
The Saints lack some depth at linebacker.
  89. San Diego Chargers (from Seattle) – DeAndre McDaniel SS, Clemson
Bob Sanders was signed but he’s still no guarantee to be healthy for very long.
  90. Baltimore Ravens – Jarvis Jenkins DL, Clemson
Paul Kruger isn’t developing as much as the Ravens would like.
  91. Atlanta Falcons – Luke Stocker TE, Tennessee
Tony Gonzalez might retire if the lockout continues, but the Falcons need to start grooming his replacement now anyways.
  92. New England Patriots – Clint Boling OL, Georgia
Boling could be moved inside to guard in case they lose Logan Mankins.
  93. Chicago Bears – Titus Young WR, Boise State
Mike Martz would love to have another weapon for Cutler to throw to.
  94. New York Jets – Jerrel Jernigan WR, Troy
One or more out of Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, and Brad Smith could become a free agent, so the Jets may need to draft someone.
  95. Pittsburgh Steelers – Shareece Wright , CB, USC
Ike Taylor could become a free agent and the Steelers’ corners need an upgrade anyway.
  96. Green Bay Packers – *Jacquizz Rodgers RB, Oregon State
Rodgers is a player that the Packers can take a chance on since they have such great depth and an overall roster.
  97. Carolina Panthers – *Tandon Doss WR, Indiana
The Panthers drafted three wide receivers last year. David Gettis and Brandon LaFell appear to have a good future, but more help will be needed at the position.4TH ROUND
  98. Carolina Panthers – Virgil Green TE, Nevada
Green has great athleticism and can provide the Panthers with the pass catching tight end threat that they’ve been missing since Wesley Walls.
  99. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver through New England) – *Jurrell Casey DT, USC
The USC connection will continue in Seattle in my opinion and Casey could be taken. The Seahawks have four defensive tackles who could become free agents, so depth could become an issue.
  100. Buffalo Bills – Marcus Gilbert OT, Florida
The Bills could use an upgrade at tackle, whether they decide to keep Demtrius Bell at left tackle or not.
  101. Cincinnati Bengals – Pernell McPhee DE, Mississippi State
Carlos Dunlap proved to be a nice surprise, but the other ends didn’t live up to expectations.
  102. Cleveland Browns – KJ Wright MLB, Mississippi State
The Browns let go of Eric Barton and David Bowens.
  103. Arizona Cardinals – Lance Kendricks TE, Wisconsin
Stephen Spach is decent, but the Cards should be looking for a more adequate tight end.
  104. Philadelphia Eagles (from Washington) – *Tyler Sash SS, Iowa
Quintin Mikell is set to become a free agent and is exiting the prime of his career.
  105. Houston Texans – *Robert Sands FS, West Virginia
The Texans’ secondary can use all the help it can get.
  106. Minnesota Vikings – Ian Williams DT, Notre Dame
Pat Williams is 38 years old. Williams is a behemoth inside and his strength is against the run game.
  107. Detroit Lions – Cecil Shorts WR, Mount Union
The Lions need a receiver to take some of the pressure off of Calvin Johnson.
  108. San Francisco 49ers – Lawrence Guy DE, Arizona State
Justin Smith continues to be great at one end spot for the Niners, but the spot opposite him could use competition.
  109. Tennessee Titans – Greg McElroy QB, Alabama
This is the way this mock has fallen, but the real draft may see the Titans take a QB with their first pick or trade to position themselves to take a higher rated one.
  110. Dallas Cowboys – Marcus Gilchrist FS, Clemson
The Cowboys continue their upgrades in the secondary.
  111. Miami Dolphins – *Taiwan Jones RB, Eastern Washington
There are big concerns about Jones’ ability to stay healthy since he hasn’t been able to in college, but if he stays healthy, he has tremendous speed and could become a great back.
  112. St. Louis Rams – Jaiquawn Jarrett FS, Temple
OJ Otogwe left and signed with the Redskins.
  113. Oakland Raiders – Joseph Barksdale OT, LSU
The Raiders are really in need of upgrade at left tackle. Barksdale offers a glimmer of hope to become a pro left tackle.
  114. Jacksonville Jaguars – Casey Matthews LB, Oregon
Matthews isn’t the kind of skill set that Clay Matthews has, but he’s still better than what the Jags have right now.
  115. San Francisco 49ers (from San Diego) – Deunta Williams FS, North Carolina
The 49ers spent a pick last year on Taylor Mays, but he didn’t show very well in coverage last year.
  116. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Nate Irving LB, Maryland
Barrett Ruud could become a free agent.
  117. New York Giants – Austin Pettis WR, Boise State
Steve Smith had micro fracture surgery on his knee and Pettis could be some insurance for that.
  118. Kansas City Chiefs – Ronald Johnson WR, USC
There’s nothing much at wide receiver for the Chiefs other than Dwayne Bowe.
  119. Indianapolis Colts – Ahmad Black SS, Florida
Bob Sanders left in free agency to join the Chargers.
  120. Philadelphia Eagles – Stephen Schilling OG, Michigan
Andy Reid likes to keep his lines well stocked. The offensive line needs more on the shelves.
  121. Jacksonville Jaguars (from New Orleans) – Korey Lindsey-Woods CB, Southern Illinois
Gene Smith loves small school players. The defensive backfield continues to get upgraded.
  122. Buffalo Bills (from Seattle) – Buster Skrine CB, Chattanooga
Very good speed and could be a small school find.
  123. Baltimore Ravens – James Brewer OT, Indiana
Brewer isn’t quite as talented as last year’s offensive tackle prospect from Indiana (St. Louis’ Rodger Saffold), but is still talented enough to get drafted in the top 150.
  124. Atlanta Falcons – Delone Carter RB, Syracuse
The Falcons are looking for a back who can spell Michael Turner at times.
  125. New England Patriots – Jalil Brown CB, Colorado
The Patriots continue to add to their young, but impressive defense.
  126. New York Jets – Sione Fua DE, Stanford
Shaun Ellis isn’t getting any younger.
  127. Chicago Bears – *Jamie Harper RB, Clemson
Chester Taylor is getting older and there’s a bit of a gap between Forte and the other backups.
  128. Pittsburgh Steelers – Terrell McClain DE, USF
The Steelers are getting a little too old along their defensive line.
  129. Green Bay Packers – Niles Paul WR, Nebraska
Paul had issues with some drops in a few games with Nebraska last season, but he’s got the size, speed and explosiveness to become a good option for any team that picks him. There are some character concerns with him however.
  130. Tennessee Titans – Jordan Cameron TE, USC
Cameron could go higher than this because of his great athleticism. Someone might take a chance on him in the top 125 because he’s just scratching the surface of his potential. He only caught his first pass last year.
  131. Green Bay Packers – DeMarcus Love OT/G, Arkansas
Love’s stock has dropped considerably after a poor showing at the Senior Bowl. He played left and right tackle at Arkansas.5TH ROUND
  132. Carolina Panthers – Jerrell Powe DT, Mississippi
The Panthers are in great need of a plug in their defensive line.
  133. Buffalo Bills – Greg Salas WR, Hawaii
Salas is on some draftniks’ sleeper lists.
  134. Cincinnati Bengals – Terrance Toliver WR, LSU
If TO and Chad Johnson-Ochocinco both leave, there will be some open spots at wideout.
  135. Kansas City Chiefs (from Denver through Tampa Bay) – Tim Barnes C, Missouri
Casey Wiegmann is getting older. The times they are a-changing…Ron Burgandy never heard that song.
  136. Arizona Cardinals – Lawrence Wilson OLB, Connecticut
Clark Haggans and Joey Porter are both entering their mid-thirties.
  137. Cleveland Browns – Jeremy Beal DE/OLB, Oklahoma
Beal has dropped off from a potential first rounder to a mid-round pick since the end of the college football season.
  138. Houston Texans – Rashad Carmichael CB, Virginia Tech
The Texans’ terrible pass defense needed tons of help.
  139. Minnesota Vikings – Pierre Allen DE, Nebraska
Ray Edwards and Brian Robison are potential free agents.
  140. Kansas City Chiefs (from Detroit) – Chris Conte FS, California
Conte could be a nice complement to Eric Berry.
  141. San Francisco 49ers – Owen Marecic FB, Stanford
Moran Norris could be upgraded over.
  142. Tennessee Titans – Greg Romeus DE, Pittsburgh
Romeus was a potential first round pick, but two injuries last season and a bad start prior to them dropped him out of top three round consideration.
  143. Dallas Cowboys – Daniel Thomas RB, Kansas State
The run game ranked 16th in the league. Tashard Choice and Felix Jones will carry the load going forward, but another back could be added with Marion Barber’s drop off last season.
  144. Washington Redskins – Chykie Brown CB, Texas
    Depth is needed at corner.
  145. St. Louis Rams – Rob Housler TE, Florida Atlantic
Michael Hoomanawanui suffered two ankle injuries, but had a good rapport with Sam Bradford. Other than him, a tight end added would help.
  146. Miami Dolphins – Lee Ziemba OL, Auburn
I think Ziemba is an underrated lineman and could do well at right tackle for someone.
  147. Jacksonville Jaguars – Da’Norris Searcy SS, North Carolina
The worst safety tandem in the league needs a complete upgrade in the draft.
  148. Oakland Raiders – Charles Clay FB/TE, Tulsa
The Raiders could be looking to upgrade what’s behind Zach Miller.
  149. Philadelphia Eagles (from San Diego) – Ugo Chinasa DE/OLB, Oklahoma State
Has a lot of physical tools, but doesn’t always try the hardest.
  150. Minnesota Vikings (from New York Giants) – Jermale Hines FS, Ohio State
More help at safety for the Vikings.
  151. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Alex Green RB, Hawaii
Green is a potential sleeper. 1,000 yard rushers at Hawaii are rare, but Green went above and beyond just obtaining over 1,000 yards.
  152. Indianapolis Colts – Greg Little WR, North Carolina
Anthony Gonzalez hasn’t been healthy for a few years.
  153. Philadelphia Eagles – Markus White DE, Florida State
The Eagles like to keep plenty of ‘jars on the shelf’ when it comes to their defensive line.
  154. Detroit Lions (from Kansas City) – Brandon Hogan CB, West Virginia
Their secondary, mostly corner, could use multiple upgrades.
  155. Washington Redskins (from New Orleans) – Denarius Moore WR, Tennessee
I think Moore is a sleeper. He impressed me in the couple of games that I watched of him.
  156. Seattle Seahawks – Chris Rucker CB, Michigan State
There are character concerns with Rucker, but I think the Seahawks are willing to look past that this late.
  157. Seattle Seahawks (from Baltimore) – Vincent Brown WR, San Diego State
Mike Williams made a great surprise last season, but more help is still needed for Seattle at wide receiver.
  158. Atlanta Falcons – John Moffitt OG, Wisconsin
The Falcons have key offensive linemen who could leave for free agency.
  159. New England Patriots – Brandon Fusco OC, Slippery Rock
One of the top small school prospects.
  160. Chicago Bears – Cortez Allen CB, Citadel
The Bears’ pass defense ranked 20th last season, so there’s room for improvement.
  161. New York Jets – Pat Devlin QB, Delaware
The Jets should be looking for a reliable backup QB since Mark Brunell is getting so old.
  162. Pittsburgh Steelers – Stevan Ridley RB, LSU
    Competition for Mendenhall’s backup.
  163. Green Bay Packers – Julius Thomas TE, Portland State
Very athletic and has tons of upside, but is inexperienced and raw.
  164. Baltimore Ravens – Stanley Havili FB, USC
Le’Ron McClain may not be back for 2011.
  165. Baltimore Ravens – Bilal Powell RB, Louisville
Willis McGahee could also leave the Ravens.6TH ROUND
  166. Carolina Panthers – Kendrick Burney CB, North Carolina
Burney has dropped considerably after bad 40 times, which made talent evaluators go back and look at the tape to reconsider his grade.
  167. Cincinnati Bengals – Kris O’Dowd C, USC
Kyle Cook is dependable, but never hurts to add depth or competition.
  168. Cleveland Browns (from Denver) – Derek Hall OT, Stanford
The right side of the Browns line needs upgraded.
  169. Buffalo Bills – Josh Bynes MLB, Auburn
The run defense was horrible for Buffalo last year, so not just the front three needs to improve.
  170. Cleveland Browns – Ricky Elmore DE, Arizona
Defensive line upgrades galore for the Browns.
  171. Arizona Cardinals – Ross Homan OLB, Ohio State
As stated earlier, Joey Porter and Clark Haggans are in their mid- thirties and on the decline.
  172. Minnesota Vikings –Dwayne Harris WR, East Carolina
Sidney Rice could become a free agent, so another receiver should be added.
  173. Seattle Seahawks (from Detroit) – Chris Culliver CB, South Carolina
The Seahawks need help at corner.
  174. San Francisco 49ers – DeMarcus Van Dyke CB, Miami (FL)
Van Dyke has generated a lot of interest and the Niners are looking for some secondary help.
  175. Tennessee Titans – Jake Kirkpatrick C, TCU
Kirkpatrick could compete for the center job.
  176. Dallas Cowboys – Chris Hairston OT, Clemson
Doug Free stepped up to left tackle, but the offensive line overall could use competition.
  177. Washington Redskins – *Henry Hynoski FB, Pittsburgh
Hynoski left Pitt early because of the coaching change.
  178. Houston Texans – Martin Parker DE, Richmond
More help for the conversion to the 3-4.
  179. Miami Dolphins – Jeremy Kerley WR, TCU
The Dolphins’ offense can use help at almost all positions.
  180. Baltimore Ravens (from St. Louis) – Joe Lefeged SS, Rutgers
Ed Reed keeps getting injured and Dawan Landry could leave for free agency.
  181. Oakland Raiders – Derek Newton OL, Arkansas State
The Raiders’ offensive line is in need of the most help.
  182. Jacksonville Jaguars – Doug Hogue OLB, Syracuse
Justin Durant and Kirk Morrison are both potential free agents and could’ve been upgraded over anyways.
  183. San Diego Chargers – Zach Hurd OG, Connecticut
Louis Vasquez struggled with some injuries in 2010.
  184. Arizona Cardinals (from Tampa Bay through Philadelphia) – Cliff Matthews OLB, South Carolina
The Cardinals need to hit the linebacker picks hard in the draft.
  185. New York Giants – Andre Smith TE, Virginia Tech
Travis Beckum had some injuries last season.
  186. Denver Broncos (from Philadelphia through Detroit) – Derrick Locke RB, Kentucky
Correll Buckhalter and Laurence Maroney could not be brought back.
  187. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from Kansas City) – Justin Boren OG, Ohio State
Davin Joseph and Jeremy Trueblood could become free agents.
  188. Indianapolis Colts – Justin Rogers CB, Richmond
The Colts’ defense needs help or depth just about everywhere.
  189. Denver Broncos (from New Orleans through New England) – Jerrard Tarrant FS, Georgia Tech
    Brian Dawkins’ retirement is approaching.
  190. San Francisco 49ers (from Seattle) – Stephen Burton WR, West Texas A&M
Another weapon for Alex Smith (if Coach Harbaugh gets his way) or a new quarterback (if GM Baalke gets his way).
  191. Baltimore Ravens – Brian Rolle OLB, Ohio State
Sergio Kindle’s future is unclear, but Rolle would provide some insurance if he still isn’t ready to play.
  192. Atlanta Falcons – Ricardo Lockette WR, Fort Valley State
Roddy White didn’t have much help from other wide receivers.
  193. New England Patriots – Cedric Thornton DT, Southern Arkansas
Small school, high effort/motor player, could be a steal for a 3-4 team.
  194. New York Jets – Jonas Mouton LB, Michigan
The Jets have shown interest, as have some other teams, in Mouton.
  195. Chicago Bears – *Will Hill FS, Florida
The Bears have had their eye close on Hill.
  196. Pittsburgh Steelers – Scott Lutrus OLB, Connecticut
The Steelers always look for more linebackers, no matter if they already have enough.
  197. Green Bay Packers – Brandon Bair DE, Oregon
Bair could be an ideal fit, and a steal, if he’s able to come to a 3-4 team.
  198. New York Giants – Ryan Hill CB, Miami (FL)
Corner is a spot where the Giants need to address this offseason.
  199. Kansas City Chiefs – Willie Smith OT, East Carolina
The Chiefs’ offensive line could use some help, including right tackle.
  200. Minnesota Vikings – *Thomas Keiser OLB, Stanford
A few linebackers could be leaving the Vikings when free agency comes.
  201. San Diego Chargers – Mike Mohamed MLB, California
The Chargers have quite a few middle linebackers that could leave via free agency.
  202. New York Giants – Chris White MLB, Mississippi State
Keith Bullock is getting very close to retirement and last year’s two linebackers who were drafted (Tracey and Dillard) both got injured.
  203. Carolina Panthers – *Darvin Adams WR, Auburn
Maybe the Panthers will want to bring in a receiver who has a nice connection already with Newton.7TH ROUND
  204. Green Bay Packers (from Carolina) – Keith Williams OG, Nebraska
Injuries seem to plague the Packers offensive linemen in recent years.
Denver Broncos – forfeit pick for Josh McDaniels’ tape (not a sex tape)
  205. Detroit Lions (from Denver) – Roy Helu RB, Nebraska
Jahvid Best could use a complement.
  206. Buffalo Bills – TJ Yates QB, North Carolina
The Bills will in all likelihood address quarterback earlier than this, but this is how this mock fell.
  207. Cincinnati Bengals – Jeron Johnson SS, Boise State
The Bengals have three safeties that could leave for free agency, so safety could be addressed again here.
  208. New York Jets (from Arizona) – Byron Stingily OT, Louisville
Came out of nowhere after the season ended and his stock has risen to becoming a draftable player.
  209. Seattle Seahawks (from Cleveland) – Alex Henery K, Nebraska
The top kicker in this year’s class.
  210. Atlanta Falcons (from Detroit) – Eugene Clifford SS, Tennessee State
The Packers embarrassed the Falcons’ defense in the playoffs. Defense should be addressed often in this draft.
  211. San Francisco 49ers – Ryan Whalen WR, Stanford
I don’t think that Harbaugh will be like Steve Spurrier in getting a lot of his former players, but Whalen and Marecic will be solid pickups for the Niners if they choose them.
  212. Tennessee Titans – *Tori Gurley WR, South Carolina
If they were willing to take a chance on Randy Moss, they need more help at wide receiver.
    Dallas Cowboys
    – spent this pick in the Supplemental Draft last summer on Illinois DT Joshua Brent-Price
  213. Houston Texans – Chas Henry P, Florida
Matt Turk is older than dirt.
  214. Washington Redskins – Adrian Moten OLB, Maryland
Another pass rusher is needed across from Brian Orakpo.
  215. Minnesota Vikings – Anthony Gaitor CB, Florida International
    Aggressive corner but he’s undersized.
  216. St. Louis Rams – Shiloh Keo SS, Idaho
Even before OJ Otogwe left, the Rams secondary needed help at both safety spots.
  217. Miami Dolphins – Charles Gantt TE, Michigan State
The Dolphins need more targets for their next quarterback if they are going to replace Chad Henne.
  218. Miami Dolphins (from Jacksonville) – Lester Jean WR, Florida Atlantic
The Dolphins will focus very closely on their offense this draft. Jean could be a good addition to Marshall and Bess.
  219. Oakland Raiders – David Arkin OG, Missouri State
The Raiders’ offensive line needs the biggest improvements.
  220. Dallas Cowboys (from San Diego) – Kai Forbath K, UCLA
    Buehler…Buehler…Buehler?
  221. New York Giants – Ollie Ogbu DT, Penn State
The Giants are always looking for fresh talent to add to their line, even if people think they already are full along the line.
  222. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Eddie Jones DE, Texas
High effort guy, but won’t end up in the starting lineup this early.
  223. Kansas City Chiefs – Daniel Kilgore OG, Appalachian State
Interior linemen are one position where the Chiefs could use some more talent at.
  224. Washington Redskins  (from Indianapolis) – *Dion Lewis RB, Pittsburgh
Mike Shanahan could create his own three-headed monster in the backfield with Ryan Torain, Ryan Williams, and Dion Lewis. Portis’ career is nearing an end.
  225. Baltimore Ravens (from Philadelphia) – Tyrod Taylor QB, Virginia Tech
After Marc Bulger leaves, the Ravens will need a developmental guy to come in for Flacco if he gets injured.
  226. New Orleans Saints – Mark LeGree FS, Appalachian State
The Saints could use some depth in their defensive back end.
  227. Philadelphia Eagles (from Seattle) – Da’Rel Scott RB, Maryland
The Eagles need a better backup than Jerome Harrison.
  228. St. Louis Rams  (from Baltimore) – Ryan Jones CB, Northwest Missouri State
The Rams could stand to draft at least two corners this year.
  229. Atlanta Falcons – Ryan Winterswyk DE, Boise State
John Abraham is still getting good sack numbers, but is getting older.
  230. Atlanta Falcons (from New England) – Byron Maxwell CB, Clemson
More youth movement for the Pats on defense.
Chicago Bears – spent this pick in the Supplemental Draft last summer on BYU RB Harvey Unga
  231. San Francisco 49ers (from NYJ through Detroit) – Nick Bellore LB, Central Michigan
    Outside linebackers need upgraded.
  232. Pittsburgh Steelers – Jarriel King OT, South Carolina
The Steelers have needed more depth on their offensive line…or maybe just starters who can stay healthy.
  233. Green Bay Packers – Mike Person OT, Montana State
Offensive line should be addressed at least once in the draft, but it’s hard telling because of the best available player philosophy of GM Ted Thompson.
  234. San Diego Chargers – David Carter DE, UCLA
Carter really helped his stock with a strong performance at the Senior Bowl.
  235. Miami Dolphins – Nate Williams SS, Washington
    Yehemiah Bell isn’t getting younger.
  236. Minnesota Vikings – Jason Kelce C, Cincinnati
Replenishing some depth for the O-line.
  237. Philadelphia Eagles – Mario Harvey MLB, Marshall
The Eagles’ linebackers have injuries happen too often for the past few seasons. Harvey will help with the depth.
  238. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Mike McNeill TE, Nebraska
    Another weapon for Josh Freeman.
  239. San Francisco 49ers – Jabara Williams OLB, “Stone Cold” Stephen F. Austin
Low sack numbers from outside linebackers of the 49ers last year.
  240. Philadelphia Eagles – Nathan Enderle QB, Idaho
Mike Vick isn’t a young man and who’s going to be the backup after they trade Kevin Kolb?
  241. Oakland Raiders – Tejay Johnson FS, TCU
Tyvon Branch had a tough year.
  242. Seattle Seahawks – Allen Bradford RB, USC
Another pipeline player from SoCal to Seattle.
  243. New Orleans Saints – Colby Whitlock DT, Texas Tech
Just in case Shaun Rogers decides he’s not going to try hard enough.
  244. Carolina Panthers – Eric Hagg FS, Nebraska
    Depth for the secondary.
  245. Buffalo Bills – Anthony Gray DL, Southern Mississippi
The run defense needs so much help.
  246. Cincinnati Bengals – Wayne Daniels OLB, TCU
The Bengals have decent linebackers but maybe Rey Maualuga needs some motivation.
  247. Denver Broncos – Aldrick Robinson WR, SMU
Demariyous Thomas’ injury may cause them to draft a wideout.
  248. Cleveland Browns – JT Thomas OLB, West Virginia
More depth for the Browns who could use a rush linebacker.
  249. Arizona Cardinals – Kevin Kowalski C, Toledo
The Cardinals center spot needs an upgrade, but Kowalski would provide competition more than an upgrade.
  250. San Francisco 49ers – Brian Lainhart S, Kent State
    Is anybody reading this?
  251. Tennessee Titans – Quentin Davie OLB, Northwestern
Linebackers are definitely going to have to be brought in.
  252. Dallas Cowboys – John Graves DL, Virginia Tech
Marcus Spears could be a free agent if they don’t re-sign him.
  253. Washington Redskins – Chris Neild NT, West Virginia
Albert Haynesworth’s replacement will have to come in the draft. Hopefully for the Redskins’ sake, they’ll get one before the second to last pick in the draft.
  254. Houston Texans – Akeem Dent LB, Georgia
More help for the conversion to the 3-4 defense. Linebackers need to be replenished and brought in constantly.

  1. San Francisco 49ers – Jabara Williams OLB, “Stone Cold” Stephen F. Austin
Low sack numbers from outside linebackers of the 49ers last year.

Orlando Jordan -COS(Cabinet University) would make a better pick then that one!
