Mike W’s Outlook: This is a major year for the Ravens. It all starts with Joe Flacco, who needs to rise against the critics and show that he’s a future Super Bowl champ. The defense needs to rebound from taking a lot of hits in free agency (particularly the losses of Josh Wilson and Dawan Landry). They must get maximum production out of their draft class, particularly from Jimmy and Torrey Smith.

I think the Ravens have what it takes to contend for the AFC North and ultimately make the postseason, whether as the division champion or a wildcard. To reach their full potential, they need to get better production from the receivers and the secondary; a tall order considering the losses in both areas. I see the Ravens stepping back slightly, earning 10 or 11 wins and a wildcard.

Trades:
Traded 2012 4th round pick to Bills for WR Lee Evans

2011 Ravens Draft Review:
By drafting Jimmy Smith, Torrey Smith, Jah Reid and Tandon Doss, the Ravens added three potential future starters and a fourth potential impact player. The Tyrod Taylor pick may allow Cam Cameron to try some experimental packages on offense.

Overall Draft Grade:
B+

Picks in 2011 NFL Draft
Rd 1, Pick 27: Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado- If the Ravens can keep him out of trouble, he could be a starter in their secondary for years. His size and physical style are plusses.
Grade: B+
Rating: 8

Rd 2, Pick 58: Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland- Smith is a potential homerun hitter at receiver who hopefully will provide Joe Flacco with a deep threat.
Grade: B
Rating: 7.5

Rd 3, Pick 85: Jah Reid, OT, Central Florida- Reid at first seemed like a player who took advantage of a week OT class, but now will compete for the starting RT spot.
Grade: C+
Rating: 6.5

Rd 4, Pick 123: Tandon Doss, WR, Indiana- Doss put up solid stats as a receiver and kick returner against Big Ten competition, suggesting that he could be a solid weapon.
Grade: C
Rating: 6

Rd 5, Pick 164: Chykie Brown, DB, Texas- Brown is obviously not under pressure to perform, but has the mobility and versatility to contribute in pass defense packages.
Grade: C
Rating: 5.5

Rd 5, Pick 165: Pernell McPhee, DL, Mississippi State- Normally I’d be unimpressed by an unknown name from a less prestigious school, but Baltimore has a nose for good defensive linemen.
Grade: C
Rating: 5.5

Rd 6, Pick 180: Tyrod Taylor, QB, Virginia Tech- His arm strength and undeniable athletic ability make him an intriguing late pick.
Grade: C+
Rating: 6

Rd 7, Pick 225: Anthony Allen, RB, Georgia Tech- At 228 lbs, I’m assuming the Ravens expect him to fill Willis McGahee’s power-back role.
Grade: C
Rating: 5

2010 Stat Leaders
QB: Joe Flacco: 306-489, 3622yards, 7.5avg, 62.6%, 25 Td, 10 int, 93.6 rating
RB: Ray Rice: 307 attempts, 1220 yards, 4.0avg, 67 long, 5 Td
WR: Anquan Boldin: 64 rec, 837 yards, 13.1avg, 61 long, 7 Td

Offseason Storylines:
-Most players and analysts decide Flacco is overrated and not clutch, Ravens respond.
-Ravens cut Kelly Gregg, Todd Heap, Willis McGahee and Derrick Mason
-Will the Thanksgiving game between the 49ers and Ravens make for an awkward Harbaugh family dinner?
