10. Larry Drew, Atlanta Hawks

Given the circumstances, Larry Drew has really held the ship together in Atlanta and done a wonderful job. This season, he’s battled injuries and a star player that wants out; yet the Hawks are still a team that can potentially make a splash in the playoffs this year.

9. Doug Collins, Philadelphia 76ers

Collins is, admittedly, the guy that probably needs to prove it in the playoffs to be this high on the list of NBA coaches. He’s certainly had an odd career; coaching only ten NBA seasons since 1986. But his track record of getting teams into the playoffs is pretty good. Right now his young Sixers are 2nd in the Atlantic, but it is entirely possible that they re-grab the Division lead in the coming days/weeks. And if that happens, watch out for Philly.

Who Are The Indiana Pacers?

They are for real, folks. This is definitely a good basketball team. Are they a great basketball team? That may be too early to decide.

If you asked me before the season started, I’d have told you Indiana is still a team on the rise, but I don’t expect them to get a playoff seed higher than five or six. The reason? Shaking my head.

I love Kevin Garnett. I loved him as a player before he was traded to the Celtics. I respected him as a man crying because of his loyalty to a losing franchise. I’ve always respected the passion and the intensity that make him the player that he is. But when is it enough? When does the passion and intensity become more of a burden than an advantage? Strengths

Chandler is your prototypical role-playing center. He is definitely more athletic than the average center which enables him to move up and down the floor well. Guard – Boston Celtics – 6’3″, 180 lbs

Strengths

Delonte has a mid-range jump shot a lot of guards would kill for. He attacks the basketball well and plays outstanding defense for his size. Probably one of the best combo guards in the leauge, can run an offense well or play off the ball. Every team needs players like Delonte West. He’s a hard-worker that can fill multiple roles. Finally!

Twelve days ago, it didn’t look promising. The NBA Players Association, in a VERY bold move, chose to not only reject the “take it or leave it” offer from the NBA Owners and David Stern; but also to dissolve the union all-together and slap the league with an anti-trust lawsuit. It was a move that could have totally backfired. Taking the negotiating out of the hands of Billy Hunter and David Stern and bringing the battle to the courts could have not only ended this current NBA season, but future NBA seasons. You never know how long these things in the legal system are going to last. It was a dangerous, but ballsy move. Continue reading →

Point Guard – Detroit Pistons – 6’5″, 205 lbs

Strengths

Has a really nice mid-range jump shot. Solid scorer when he gets to the basket. Great finisher around the hoop. Quietly put together a solid season last year. Saw career highs in his free throw percentage, assists per game, and 3-point field goal percentage; though that is still nothing to write home about. Continue reading →

Power Forward – New Orleans Hornets – 6’9″, 240 lbs

Strengths

One of the better offensive Power Forwards in the league. Has a really consistent mid-range jump shot. Shoots a good free throw percentage, above average passer for a big man.
