St. Louis Cardinal rookie third baseman David Freese’s season is over. Freese has been on the DL since June 28; he originally sprained his right ankle in a game, then broke his toe when he dropped a weight on it during rehab. His season is over after tearing a muscle in his leg in a rehab game over the past weekend.
Freese has had an up and down year. He was arrested for a DUI over the off season, but rebounded to win the starting third base job in Spring Training. He was playing well before the injuries, but will now have to wait until next season to get back onto the field.
He is expected to have surgery.
