Ok, I have no problem with trash talkings, but you need to back it up.
Yesterday, Brandon Phillips said this about the St. Louis Cardinals:
“I’d play against these guys on one leg…We have to beat these guys. All they do is bitch and moan about everything — all of them. They’re little bitches — all of them.
“I really hate the Cardinals. Compared to the Cardinals, I love the Chicago Cubs. Let me make this clear: I hate the Cardinals.”
And how did he follow up those comments – 0-5 with a K. The Reds lost to the Cardinals 7-3.
If anything, these comments should be flattering for the Cardinals. They’ve been the winners for the last decade, while the Reds are the team that starts hot and fizzles. This year could be different for them, but with this level of maturity, it might not.
I do like that Tony LaRussa threw a little gas on the fire:
“I don’t think that will go over well in his clubhouse,” La Russa said. “Phillips is ripping his teammates. (Scott) Rolen, Edmonds, (Miguel) Cairo, (Russ) Springer, all of the ex-Cardinals over there. He isn’t talking about this year. He’s talking about the way we’ve always played. And those guys are old Cardinals. Tell him he’s ripping his own teammates, because they were all Cardinals.”
I really don’t think it will have that much of an effect on their clubhouse; I just think Tony is trying to get into Phillips’ head.
