You’ll have to hit the refresh page every few minutes to see my latest thoughts since we’re not very high tech yet here on the site. But if anybody’s reading, we appreciate it!
8:40 I wrote in my Jets’ draft preview or mock draft, forget which one that Rex Ryan worked out Coples at DE and LB drills. There was interest there and that’s the cue i took from Ryan. I give that pick an A. Great value. But can Rex Ryan get him to play hard all the time?
8:35: Irvin is a great pass rusher, but he’s not going just a designated pass rusher. He’s not going to be able to hold up against the run. I watched him get trucked quite a few times. He’s come from a bad past and overcome that. I’m really happy for the dude to come back, but strictly as a football perspective, I don’t like the pick at all.
8:34: Irvin was 174 on my board.
8: 32: HUGE Reach by Seattle. This is awful! F. He was considered a possible first rounder before last college football season, but his character and on field play dropped him into the 3rd round at the highest. 2 reaches 2 years in a row for the Seahawks, but this one is far worse than last year.
8:28: Michael Floyd was one of the very few facility visits that I found for my draft interests list. Look for Jonathan Martin OT, Stanford in 2nd round. he also had a facility visit with AZ.
Rams and Brockers pick goes down as an A-. Brockers, like Poe, has a large bust factor, but his upside is huge as well. he’s got a lot of growing to do as a player.
8:24: Mortensen just tweeted Brockers is the pick. Swear I didn’t sneak a peak and then post it!
8:24: Cardinals and Floyd get a B-. I think they should’ve taken an OT, Riley Reiff. WR is deep this year. they could’ve waited. Rams with Brockers?
8:20 Larry Fitzgerald gets his wish and the Cardinals take michael Floyd WR, notre dame.
8:14: Fletcher Cox to the Eagles. I give it a B+. I like him better as a 3-4 end, but he’ll be DT in Philly. He’s versatile though. Philly’s never had good luck drafting dlinemen, so i’m skeptical, but Cox is a good pick.
Unless it’s a huge reach, I won’t give teams under a C here in the first. Right now, it’s too soon to call a player an awful pick.
8:10 Kuechly to Panthers gets an A, Bills and Gilmore get an A, Chiefs and Poe get a B+
8:08: top 10 available.
- David DeCastro OG, Stanford
- Melvin Ingram DE/OLB, South Carolina
- Dre Kirkpatrick CB, Alabama
- Riley Reiff OT, Iowa
- Quinton Coples DE, North Carolina
- Kendall Wright WR, Baylor
- Michael Floyd WR, Notre Dame
- Fletcher Cox DE/DT, Mississippi State
- Michael Brockers DT, LSU
- Courtney Upshaw DE/OLB, Alabama
8:06 Eagles have traded up, Fletcher Cox? made a mistake earlier in my top 5 available. Barron was taken already. Oops.
8:05Dontari Poe to the Chiefs. A reach. An athletic prospect, versatile along the dline, but he’s got a big bust factor. I’ve seen Poe compared to the Ravens’ haloti Ngata and the Chiefs need a nose tackle, so i like the pick even though I think it’s a reach. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
8:03: Chiefs made pick. Gilmore makes Bills defense even better along with dline. But they really need a LT and a WR.
7:59: Schefter says Stephon Gilmore CB South Carolina to Bills next.
7:57: Luke Kuechly goes to Panthers: A. Best linebacker in draft. It fills a need. He could be the safest pick in teh draft, but I’ve said this before: Aaron Curry was the safest pick in 09. He got traded to the Raiders last season. Not saying that’ll be what happens to Kuechly, but if anybody says safest pick, bring that up.
Draft Grades so far: Colts – A+ Andrew Luck, Redskins A+ RGIII
Browns B+ Trent Richardson RB, Alabama
Vikings A+ Matt Kalil OT, USC
Jaguars B+ Justin Blackmon WR Oklahoma State
Cowboys A+ Mo Claiborne CB, LSU
Buccaneers B- Mark Barron S, Alabama
Dolphins B Ryan Tannehill QB, Texas A&M
7:51: Dolphins just took Tannehill. He’s been in the top half of the first round since last season, not just since ESPN has been pumping up his stock.
7:50: Matt Miller @nfldraftscout on Twitter just tweeted that an NFC West team just called Michael Brockers’ people.
7:46: Mark Barron taken. NFL loves Nick Saban players. He rose really a lot the past week. he’s more of a mid 1st, but safety class is very thin this year. Top 10 worthy? I dont think, but he’s borderline top 10.
7:42: Top 5 available:
- David DeCastro OG, Stanford
- Luke Kuechly MLB, Boston College
- Stephon Gilmore CB, South Carolina
- Melvin Ingram DE/OLB, South Carolina
7:39: getting crazy! Cowboys take Mo Claiborne. Great pick. Secondary for Boys is really good now with Mo and Brandon Carr
7:33: Jaguars take Justin Blackmon. Desperation for WR.
Rams trade out with the Cowboys cuz Jags are taking Blackmon at 5. Cowboys probably going with Mark Barron.
7:31LOL NFL network on commercial as Jags pick. Jags fans always annoyed that tv always goes to commercial when the Jags are picking.
7:30 nobody pay attention to the mock i posted today. Only look at the one i did yesterday. Thanks!
Jags give up #7 and 101 overall (4th0 to move up with the Bucs.
7:25: Twitter has spoilers! NFL please prevent them from ruining suspense of picks!!
Twitter just said that Schefter says Vikes took Kalil, Bucs trade to Jacksonville. That will be Blackmon. Jags desperate for WR, apparently more than the Rams.
7:21 Richardson, as predicted, is the next pick. Now for the moment of truth. Kalil or Claiborne? I’m going with Claiborne. Think i just heard PA guy at music city hall say Jacksonville traded up…
7:19: Jay Glazer jsut said on twitter that he thinks Vikes go with Kalil
7:18 Rick Spielman and the vikings have come a long way in the draft since the team ran out of time a few years ago and had to fall back one spot. Spielman has made a great deal to move down and get a lot of extra picks.
7:15 time’s running out for the vikings to trade down or for the Jags/Rams to make a deal good enough. Unless Vikes are wil. now stand pat. RGIII selected by Skins. Hope McNabb isn’t correct for Redskins’ sake.
7:11: pretty sure I’ve seen these draft hats before at the NBA Draft…
7:10 glad NFL.com is showing NFLN coverage. I’m saved!
7:07: Luck is the pick, big shoes to fill. Now the Colts must fill the rest of their roster. They really need a lot of help on defense. Changing to a 3-4 can’t be accomplished in one year, but a nose tackle is one of the most important pieces. Alameda Ta’amu in round 3 from Washington is a possibility.
7:05 I LOVE the fact that the networks aren’t going to show players before the pick is announced. Anticipation and excitement added.
7:04: Roger Goodell is just like a pro wrestling antihero. He just ignores the boos and keeps on just keepin on.
7:01: Boom! Let’s go!
6:57: Rams AND Jaguars are apparently trying to trade with the Vikings for Blackmon.
6:52: former Rams’ GM Billy DeVaney on CBS’ coverage.
6:46 extremely nervous about the Jaguars trading UP for Blackmon…I hope Gene Smith had NOTHING to do with the Reggie Williams and Matt Jones picks back before he was GM. it’s great to get the top rated WR, but WR is a huge bust potential in the 1st round.
6:42: Sorry NFL.com, I don’t give a #^%@#! about fantasy value right now. Looks like CBS is my choice.
6:38: Thank God that Rob Rang is on CBS otherwise I’d have to listen to Bucky Brooks on NFL.com. Not a fan of his. Rang’s legit.
6:30: btw, I’m watching CBSsports.com and NFL.com nfl draft coverage because I don’t have cable here yet. PLEASE don’t have Jamie Dukes!!! PLEASE!
If this were Madden, a message would pop up to the Vikings and say that teams are not allowed to have more than 10 picks in the draft…Vikings now have 13 picks
6:28: Watching CBS Sports draft coverage on their website with Pete Prisco. This is going to get interesting…
Technically, I could still change my mock draft…Nah, not worth it. At this point what’s the point? Helen Keller could get the first 3 picks right.
Browns send Vikings their 1st, 4th, 5th, and 7th to Minny.
6:13: Browns have a lot of ammo to trade. If they were scared that someone was trading up for Richardson, then why not trade up?
6:10: Top 5 available:
- Andrew Luck QB, Stanford
- Trent Richardson RB, Alabama
- Robert Griffin III QB, Baylor
- Matt Kalil OT, USC
- Morris Claiborne CB, LSU
6:06 According to Adam Schefter on Twitter, the Vikings and Browns have come to terms with a trade. Vikings getting 3 picks in return.
6:00 Andrew Luck is going first…The story with the Colts is how will they fill the roster around him? Do they want to improve the offense around Luck? They must help the conversion from 4-3 defense to the 3-4. Need lots of linebackers, nose tackle, 3-4 ends…the Texans made an easy transition last year, but they had Wade Phillips as coach.
5:35: My guess for who Mr. Irrelevant 2012 is Northern Illinois LB Pat Schiller. The Colts showed interest in him this offseason and they hold the final pick.
5:25: I’ve got 2 mock drafts out there, one that has the Vikings going with Kalil and another one with them going with Claiborne. Had a lot of draft info this offseason. Team Draft Interests, Draft Previews for every team, Value Boards…You can see everything under the NFL Tab and drop down, too.
5:17 Hello! I’m pretty excited to see who gets picked where tonight. Will the Vikings be able to trade out? Or will they stay at 3 and take Claiborne? Or will it be Matt Kalil, OT from USC? That’s what’s so great about the draft: there are so many different scenarios that can happen.
