Here is the first full GM score table; this will be the new format (at least until I get another way to improve them). I’m going to do this for all active GMs with all of their moves and the WAR they produced. This will be updated after each season. Eventually I’ll be adding scores for each GM to be able to compare them to other GMs. First up is Jeff Luhnow of the Astros.

GM Score – Sandy Alderson (Mets Only)
So, it’s been a while since I’ve done a GM score. It’s not from lack of time; it’s from more from lack of approval. I wasn’t crazy about my scoring. The main problem was there was a little more to the roster that the GM has impact on than just the moves. One example is keeping a player from a previous GM; Alderson is a prime example since he pretty much took over a roster that was already in place.
Secondly, moves (or lack there of) can have various impacts from year to year. Dan Murphy was worth 1.9 WAR in 2011, but didn’t play in the majors in 2010; that doesn’t reflect in a normal score. Also, injuries impact this; Ike Davis dropped to 1.3 from 2.5 due to injury.
I’ve decided to look at the moves at a whole and year to year scores. Alderson is a great place to start.

GM Scores: John Mozeliak
The second GM in the series is John Mozeliak of the St. Louis Cardinals (call me a homer, but I was interested to see how he’s done). Mozeliak took over after the 2007 season, so he’s had 3 seasons under his belt. He’s made 11 trades and 30 signings in that time and has had no draft picks make the majors.
