Consider this: last year, Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was the “most NFL ready quarterback” coming out. After Sam Bradford came off the board with the number one overall selection, Clausen was number four on Mel Kiper’s best available board. I had Clausen as a better prospect than Bradford on my big board…and boy, am I embarrassed. In my first year of evaluating NFL prospects, I fell into the trap of hearing how Clausen was the “most NFL ready” quarterback in the class.
What’s wrong with college football these days? College football has undoubtedly taken backseat to the NFL in terms of popularity. And by backseat I mean has been tied, gagged, and stuffed into the trunk. The NCAA, which has become victimized by the always-baffling BCS, has consistently maintained a habit of frustrating players, coaches, and fans alike. The unpopular “championship” “system” has left too many participants of the sport unfulfilled and confused about a national champion. But is that what’s wrong with college football? This is a list of draft-eligible underclassmen who have declared for the 2011 NFL Draft. Prospects have a deadline of January 15th to declare themselves eligible for the draft and have until midnight on January 17th to rescind the decision and go back to school (if they haven’t already signed with an agent. Once you sign with an agent, you have to leave school). Once the deadline has passed there’s no going back. We could see a huge flow of underclassmen come out this year due to the possibility of a rookie wage scale in 2012 as part of a potential new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
