It was one of the most competitive leagues in college sports; good, hotly contested rivalries: St. Johns vs. Georgetown, Syracuse vs. St. Johns, Syracuse vs. Georgetown, Villanova vs. Georgetown, and UConn vs. Syracuse, Villanova vs. Providence, and on and on.
Once it was small league but very solid one. At one point it seemed that every team was capable of beating each other from the top of the league to the bottom. Villanova, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Boston College, St. John’s, Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall, UConn, Rutgers.
That was the Big East. And the games were nothing short of life or death.
