A month into the season and the Cardinals offense looked like an illusion. No one was hitting particularly well overall, but the Cards made the most of their hits… a very frugal but effective offense. After that first month, several key offensive players were slumping heavily. But now Allen Craig has raised his wRC+ to a respectable 121, which is definitely above average. This is exciting, considering his rate stats in April. He has continued to pummel the ball during run scoring opportunities, and has shown flashes of his power at time. He’s a veritable double machine that is fed on RBI.

Evaluating MLB Top Players With Projection Systems (pt3)
Apologies for my last ranking, it had omitted a lot of players that showed that I was not paying too much attention. It was however just a preliminary ranking, and the reason for not including players like Joey Votto and Matt Kemp is that they did not have as many plate appearances and therefore did not qualify for the top producers list I was looking at for last season.
To add to the quandary, I had just typed out a lengthy article and I am now writing it again, since the site had logged me out without me realizing it. Never leave your tabs open for too long, I suppose is the lesson…and pay attention!

Season Preview: St. Louis Cardinals

Spring Training: Up and Running St. Louis Cardinals
Oh my, how time does fly. It is that time of year again! Pitchers and catchers have reported, and now teams have started playing spring training games. If one is particularly caught in the moment, one might be worried that the Cardinals are 0-2 so far in spring training play.
But since that’s only two games, and spring training results have little to no correlation to regular season results, I’m not too worried as a fan. Things to be worried about have been shown in early projections: a possibly scary combination of aging veterans and high-BABIP younger stars can make some within the baseball community shudder. But still, I’m not especially worried.

How Much Does Walt Jocketty Still Influence the Cardinals?
So I’ve been doing some digging into the Cardinals numbers from this season, and just for fun started looking at the build of the roster from this year. I wanted to specifically see where a majority of the players came from; the project then morphed into which GM brought more value this year – Walt Jocketty or John Mozeliak?
It may seem silly, since Jocketty has been out with the Cardinals for 5 seasons and with the Reds for almost that full-time. But you might be surprised by what I found.

Who is the Most Valuable Cardinal Hitter This Season?
The Cardinals’ offense has been pretty good this year. They haven’t been quite as streaky as the past, but they still have their moment. I was looking at the individual numbers and it got me thinking who would be the team MVP?

MLB Preview – St. Louis Cardinals
2011 Review:
2011 was a strange year for the Cardinals. They went from out of the playoffs in August to winning the wild card on the last day of the season. They capped that by winning the World Series.
