I find it to be a sick twist of fate that Gavitt–who battled an unconfirmed sickness for a significant period of time–finally succumbed to his illness just a day before Syracuse and Pittsburgh defected to the ACC and destroyed the identity of what was perhaps college basketball’s most competitive conference.
