This had all the ear marks of a true streak ender for the Heat, on the road, in Boston, against their hated rivals, the Celtics. Add to the fact that the Celtics 5 years ago to the date ended another hot streak by the Houston Rockets at 22 in a row, this was a game that some had seen this as a streak buster.

The Heat claim another victim…this time it was the New York Knicks. To be fair, the Knicks have beaten the Heat twice this season, which was two more times than anyone would have given the Knicks; so to ask the Orange and Blue to do it three times in a season especially when the Heat are on a roll and riding the shoulders of a steam rolling LeBron would have been asking a lot.

Every year, the Super Bowl is played and it is one of the heaviest gambled events of the year. However, not everyone bets on who will win or if the teams will combine to get the over. Forget those bets. Have some fun and bet the Prop Bets. In fact, I dare you. Continue reading →
For a man who is set to retire in 2014, David Stern still has a lot fight left. Maybe he should save his fight for when he really needs it. Taking on the San Antonio Spurs Greg Popovich for resting his players during the course of an 82 game season is a wasted fight.
For those who missed it here is what happened: The Spurs played without Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Danny Green, all sent back to San Antonio by Coach Popovich, who said the move was in his team’s best interest.

I’ve been thinking we’d reach this point dating back to the beginning of the season, the dream matchup of LeBron James’ Miami Heat and Kevin Durant’s Anti-Miami Heat.
This is the Finals the NBA wanted. This is the Finals that basketball fans should want.
You can’t do much better than a Finals where the two best players in the league face off. Not when those two players just finished 1-2 in MVP voting. Not when those two players are in the middle of staggering playoff runs. And as an added wrinkle, they’ll be guarding each other. The last time the two best players in the NBA guarded each other in an NBA Finals was….correct me if I’m wrong, but we may have to go back to Russell vs Wilt. Unreal. Continue reading →
Let’s be clear: There will be no saving LeBron James from a playoff collapse this time.
There’s no excuse to be made. You could talk about Chris Bosh’s injury being a factor, but that doesn’t change the fact that LeBron played one of his worst games of the year against Indiana last night.
22 points, 22 shots, 7 rebounds and general disinterest. None of that stat line is appropriate for a three time MVP in the playoffs. LeBron needs to win a championship now to silence his critics and save his own reputation. Continue reading →
It’s FINALLY almost here. Super Bowl XLVI. Pats vs Giants. Brady vs Eli. Hey, did you guys know this is a rematch of a Super Bowl from a few years ago? Don’t answer that. Hype? You betcha. Sure, I’m an NBA guy; but there was no way the resident douchebag, Masshole, Boston fan at 85percentsports wasn’t going to comment on this game in some manner. Duh.
As Mike W broke down this morning, there are legacies on the line Sunday. Continue reading →
Shaking my head.
I love Kevin Garnett. I loved him as a player before he was traded to the Celtics. I respected him as a man crying because of his loyalty to a losing franchise. I’ve always respected the passion and the intensity that make him the player that he is. But when is it enough? When does the passion and intensity become more of a burden than an advantage? Maybe I’m wearing green goggles and I just don’t realize that we’ve already passed that point with Garnett. Continue reading →
It was beautiful, crisp fall afternoon in Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium. I had traveled the necessary eight hours south to stand in the third row and watch the eventual national champion Alabama Crimson Tide beat up on Jevan Snead and the Rebs. As the game became more and more out of hand for the home team, more and more Tide fans migrated to where I was behind Ole Miss’s end zone.
After another interception by Nick Saban’s defense, one particularly obnoxious dude harassed the crowd with a refrain something to the affect of “Oh yeah Snead’s way better than Tim Tebow,” referencing Steve Spurrier’s preseason All-Conference vote.
Not surprisingly, it became too much for the guy in front of me. He turned around, adjusted his tie and, not unlike that scene in The Sandlot, told him “You’re acting like a real Tiger fan right now.”
