SO here we are.. standing at the college football season’s 50 yard line. Things are supposed to be starting to take shape. The polls are supposed to start reflecting the annual bowl picture, as predicted.. or is it?
The Bowl Poll, if you will.
Writers and computers alike have long ago made their predictions. It’s supposed to be an honor – and to some, I’m sure it is. But to me it seems more like someone’s witty little idea of gathering ALL of the (alleged) college football know-it-alls in a line like kids to a cookie jar, and watching them dig their own holes.. all the while, making them LIKE IT! Then proving them ALL wrong (or at least most of them) on a monumental scale!

It was beautiful, crisp fall afternoon in Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium. I had traveled the necessary eight hours south to stand in the third row and watch the eventual national champion Alabama Crimson Tide beat up on Jevan Snead and the Rebs. As the game became more and more out of hand for the home team, more and more Tide fans migrated to where I was behind Ole Miss’s end zone.
After another interception by Nick Saban’s defense, one particularly obnoxious dude harassed the crowd with a refrain something to the affect of “Oh yeah Snead’s way better than Tim Tebow,” referencing Steve Spurrier’s preseason All-Conference vote.
Not surprisingly, it became too much for the guy in front of me. He turned around, adjusted his tie and, not unlike that scene in The Sandlot, told him “You’re acting like a real Tiger fan right now.”

This is a list of draft-eligible underclassmen who have declared for the 2011 NFL Draft. Prospects have a deadline of January 15th to declare themselves eligible for the draft and have until midnight on January 17th to rescind the decision and go back to school (if they haven’t already signed with an agent. Once you sign with an agent, you have to leave school). Once the deadline has passed there’s no going back. We could see a huge flow of underclassmen come out this year due to the possibility of a rookie wage scale in 2012 as part of a potential new Collective Bargaining Agreement. This post will be updated often to show the most recent declarations. Continue reading →
