- Green Bay Packers – The champs start out at number one, and deservedly so. Another great draft by GM Ted Thompson, trimmed some fat by letting go of some expendable players via free agency, and re-signed some key players. The team last year showed just how deep the roster was with quality players who came in and replaced injured starters with ease. The team caught fire late in the season, and the momentum carried them all the way to becoming the champs. Continue reading

2011 NFL Rookie Watch List
I’ve compiled a list of rookies that are showing that they’re ready to contribute right now. Other than first round picks who are expected to be contributors very quickly (unless the team is building for the future at a certain position, like QB), I’m going to exclude first rounders. You can expect to see these players show up and get some recognition early on in their NFL careers. Continue reading

A National Arms Crisis: The NFL’s QB Obsession
It’s no secret that the quarterback is widely regarded as the most important position in the NFL, and probably in all of sports. In the modern NFL, you really can’t succeed without one. Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers and Kurt Warner started the past three Super Bowls. All five are or were Pro Bowlers. I rest my case.
This week’s QB frenzy stems directly from that point. Teams want to win. You cannot make the postseason with a lousy QB unless that team is really good. Following this, people will move mountains for quarterbacks they even think will be good. This is why the Vikings traded for Donovan McNabb, the Cardinals traded for Kevin Kolb, the Titans signed Matt Hasselbeck and the Panthers drafted Cam Newton first overall. The NFL is unquestionably obsessed with QBs Continue reading

2011 Draft: Best Available Undrafted Free Agents
It was a great draft (for some teams) and now let’s take a look at some of my best available “left-overs.” There is still plenty of talent left, like every year. Since the lockout is still in effect, there is no pro or undrafted free agency. So these prospects will have to wait until the lockout is lifted before they can sign with a team. Continue reading
Final 2011 NFL Mock Draft – 4/27/2011
Here’s my final attempt to predict what will happen in tomorrow night’s NFL draft. Rumors are swirling about the Broncos trading with the Redskins or picking Patrick Peterson…the 49ers have Prince Amukamara rated higher on the their draft board than Patrick Peterson…I’m not buying into those too much, but we’ll find out tomorrow night. Continue reading

Hooked by the NFL Playoffs
The NFL playoffs are my favorite in pro sports. With compelling storylines, tense games and the reality that one play can end a team’s season, the NFL is tough to beat. And honestly, there are just a few teams in the field of twelve that I have difficulty imagining as Super Bowl champions. So where will we go this postseason? Let’s take a look. Continue reading
