Peyton Manning, Adrian Peterson, or Tom Brady … Who is the League MVP?

With the 2012 NFL season coming down to the final 2 weeks of the season, there are some stories that continue to bear watching.

The rookies: Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson, and Andrew Luck continue their season long battle as to who will be the league’s top rookie. It’s too close to tell. If you’re a Redskins fan, most likely you will think RGIII is the top rookie and that his Heisman trophy award was not a fluke, and you could make a case for him, the same can be said for Andrew Luck who many will say he lived up to the expectations of r what was thought of him coming out of Stanford and the one that continues confound many is Russell Wilson who wasn’t even in the conversation to be the starting quarterback at the beginning of the year. (Don’t forget Seattle signed Matt Flynn to be their starter.)

But the real fun has already begun with the debate of who is going to win the league’s MVP. Continue reading →

This Week in Sports Gambling-Super Bowl Edition

There are only a few hours left before the Super Bowl.  I’ve been running around all day and night trying to scrounge up cash from numerous affiliates and “so-called” friends.  They are a shady bunch, mostly degenerates and thieves, but they’re still better than most other people you’ll meet in Los Angeles.  This pool of gamblers has run away with itself and someone has to manage it all, might as well be me.  In this upside-down world of sports betting there is no way to know if you are winning or losing, not until they close up the big book.  And I figure the guy holding the book has just as good a shot as anybody, a better chance probably.  Playing as the house has got to help me out, at least that’s what I’m holding out hope for.

The playoffs have not been too bad for me so far.  I’ve come out about even (3-3 for my picks the past two weeks) and neither of my legs have been broken, a telltale sign that things are not too bleak.

“Don’t be too lighthearted AJ.  Today is Super Sunday, for Christ’s sake!”  Must not get too excited.  One bad bet and I could be on a very slippery slope, digging myself out and such.  There are winners and losers in this thing, just like the big game, and you don’t want to find yourself on the wrong side of that line. It’s FINALLY almost here. Super Bowl XLVI. Pats vs Giants. Brady vs Eli. Hey, did you guys know this is a rematch of a Super Bowl from a few years ago? Don’t answer that. Hype? You betcha. Sure, I’m an NBA guy; but there was no way the resident douchebag, Masshole, Boston fan at 85percentsports wasn’t going to comment on this game in some manner. Duh.

Super Bowl XLVI: The Rematch

For better or for worse, the Super Bowl is one of the landmark dates on the American calendar.  It gets millions of viewers every year, both by die-hard football fans and people who ask which player is the quarterback.  Let’s put it this way: If I were to walk into a room and propose that the day after the Super Bowl should be a national holiday, I would get a lot of positive responses.  It’s hyped and beloved in our culture.

That being said, on occasion the matchup itself is heavily upstaged by the hype that surrounds it (it’s not like anybody outside of Chicago was particularly pumped to see Rex Grossman in the Super Bowl).  Not this year.  No matter who wins, or by how much that team wins, the game’s juicy storylines will make it memorable.  Quite simply, this is a particularly momentous championship game, one that will obviously crown a champion, but also a few legacies when all is said and done.
